You might be surprised, but the number one question I get when it comes to planning a baby shower is not: WHEN should I have my baby shower? But WHY should I have one?
Not every mom-to-be likes to be the center of attention or wants to play baby shower games. A lot even think that throwing one makes them look greedy because guests are supposed to bring presents. And I hear you!! I truly do! But a baby shower brings so much joy and it would be a shame to miss out on all the love and excitement you feel on that day.
So in an attempt to win you over, I put together 5 reasons WHY I think every mom-to-be should have a baby shower!
Let’s be honest, being pregnant isn’t always a walk in the park. You are fighting against morning sickness, swollen ankles, mood swings, bloating, and so much more! So you have owned this celebration! You deserve to be pampered and cared for and have an afternoon full of laughter and fun with the people you love most!
A baby shower is the one opportunity to throw a cross-generational party! Your grandma, your mom, your sister, your best friend, your niece – all in one place, all of them having fun and enjoying themselves.
This little celebration is a perfect opportunity to learn from the older generation and to get some fresh input from the younger crowd.
A baby shower is not only a lovely way to celebrate and honor you, but also your little bundle of joy that’s on its way! It’s incredible to see all the love and excitement your family and friends already have for the new babe. Embrace and enjoy that feeling to the fullest!
It’s your party so you can do whatever feels right for you! If you don’t like baby shower games, then you don’t have to play a single one!
You don’t want to decorate then don’t do it!
You don’t like the idea of having people over? How about a brunch with your girlfriends instead? Or a day in a spa with a prenatal massage? Or a coed B(a)B(y)Q? There are endless possibilities!
If you feel awkward to ask one of your friends to throw a baby shower for you, believe me, you have at least one person who is dying for the chance to throw you one!!
Finally, the last reservation many mom-to-be’s have regarding baby showers is the gifting situation! Frankly, you will get loads of presents with or without a celebration, simply because people are so excited to welcome a new sweetheart into their lives.
The advantage of having a baby shower and a registry is that you can ask for any specific must-have items. Having a baby (especially your first) costs a fortune. Most of your friends and family will love to be able to help ease this financial burden.
Another advantage is that you don’t end up with an endless amount of baby clothes, baby shoes, and baby blankets- and trust me, these are the number one presents you’ll get without having a registry!
That said if you don’t want to get any presents that’s perfectly fine as well!! Just put your no-present rule in the invitation, so people know about it!
I truly hope I was able to convince you!! Let me know in the comments!! As always, I’d love to hear from you!
